STUDENTS INVENTION

Midas Students are not only trained with lectures and books. They are also well trained to perform Literature Review and Research with the direct supervision of the Lecturers and Department Heads. Many of our students were actively involved in developing research based projects and invented the following:

Seven of our Electro-Mechanical students have invented an Industrial Robot with the guidance of Mr.Ragunatha Reddy, Head of Mechanical Department and they named as Mechatronic-7.

The students have jointly developed in to about two months (400 man hours) to desgn and fabricate the Mechatronic-7. The Robot is operated manually through battery operation. The Robot is designed excellent for picking and placing, loading and unloading from machines, pluck and place operations.

Mechatronic-7 is of 1.45 meters height with arm stretch goes up to 2.6 meters. Its arm length is 1.29 meters and it can lift loads up to 1 Kg.

The Industrial Robot Mechatronic-7 was launched by Dato’ Seri S.Samy Vellu, Minister for Works in 1995.

Another group of students from Electrical/Electronics and Mechanical Engineering departments have designed and developed one more Robot for domestic applications and it was named ad Domestic Robot. The Domestic Robot was also launched by Dato’ Seri S.Samy Vellu, Ministe for Works in 1995.

Both the Industrial and Domestic Robots was exhibited at the Midas Exhibition Booth at the Launching of Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kulim on the 18 th March 1996 . The Park was officially launched by Dato’ Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia. Both the robots were witnessed through experiments by the Prime Minister. Dato’ Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamad has appreciated and congratulated the students, staff and Midas management for their research efforts.

Five of our Electrical and Electronic students have invented the Wind Powered Magnet under the guidance of Mr.Phillip, Head of Department.

The students took about one month that is 200 man hours to design and develop the Wind Powered Magnet.

The Wind Powered Magnet took place and participated in the Wind Powered Contortion Competition, Science Fun Fiesta ’96 and won the Third Prize with a Cash award of RM 1,000.

Mr.Sivakumar, Head of Mechanical Department have identified five of his students and offered them a plan to develop the Motor Bike that is operated in gas instead of petrol. He gave the idea and asked the students to develop further. The smart students have designed a new system of engine to operate in gas. The Motor Bike was named as Gastronxer-1. The bike uses LPG as fuel and reduces the running cost by having low cost of fuel and increased efficiency.

The students spent about a month that approximately about 300 man hours to design, fabricate and modify the existing liquid fuel motorbike engine parts.

Gastronxer-1 was officially launched by Y.A.B.Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Haji Mohd Isa Bin Abdul Samad, Chief Minister of State, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus on the 17 th December 1997 at the State Secretariat Building, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

At Midas, We do train all the Engineering students and prepare them to take up the City and Guilds (UK) Examinations Part 2 and Part 3 externally. In addition to Midas Diploma, these exams and certificates equip them to establish themselves in the industries as well as to start with a better career as Engineers and Assistant Engineers.

One of our Midas Group of Colleges student MR.THAM MAW YOUNG has achieved and awarded the City and Guilds International First Prize – SILVER MEDAL AWARD in the year 1994. He has been honored with the Silver Medal by the City and Guilds International Manager during the Midas Graduation Ceremony 1995.
